Probabilistic and Scenario-Based Seismic Hazard Assessment on the Western Gulf of Corinth (Central Greece)

چکیده
The Gulf of Corinth (Central Greece) is one the most rapidly extending rifts worldwide, with its western part being seismically active, hosting numerous strong (M ? 6.0) earthquakes that have caused significant damage. main objective this study was evaluation seismic hazard through a probabilistic and stochastic methodology. implementation three seismotectonic models in form area source zones via logic tree framework revealed expected level peak ground acceleration velocity for return periods 475 950 years. Moreover, PGA values were obtained simulation motion by adopting worst-case scenarios potential earthquake occurrences known active faults area. Site-specific analysis populated urban areas (Patras, Aigion, Nafpaktos) performed constructing uniform spectra terms spectral acceleration. relative contribution each selected fault segment to characterizing site evaluated response adopted scenarios. Almost all parts found exceed reference value proposed current Greek National Building Code; however, are covered Eurocode 8 regulations.

Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment of Tehran Based on Arias Intensity
A probabilistic seismic hazard assessment in terms of Arias intensity is presented for the city of Tehran. Tehran is the capital and the most populated city of Iran. From economical, political and social points of view, Tehran is the most significant city of Iran. Many destructive earthquakes happened in Iran in the last centuries. Historical references indicate that the old city of Rey and the...
متن کاملTsunami vulnerability assessment and its implications for coastal hazard analysis and disaster management planning, Gulf of Corinth, Greece
We apply a new tsunami vulnerability assessment method to two coastal villages in the Gulf of Corinth, Greece using the 7th February 1963 tsunami as a worse case scenario. In Akoli, 46.5% of all buildings are classified highly vulnerable (BV). Approximately, 26.3% of all households are located within buildings with a High BV classification whereas 85% of all businesses are located within buildi...
متن کاملGeological identification of historical tsunamis in the Gulf of Corinth, Central Greece
Geological identification of tsunami deposits is important for tsunami hazard studies, especially in areas where the historical data set is limited or absent. Evidence left by historical tsunamis in the coastal sedimentary record of the Gulf of Corinth was investigated by trenching and coring in Kirra on the north coast and Aliki on the south coast. The Gulf of Corinth has a documented tsunami ...

متن کاملSeismic-Hazard Assessment for a Characteristic Earthquake Scenario: An Integrated Probabilistic–Deterministic Method
Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) is classically performed through the Cornell approach by using a uniform earthquake distribution over the source area and a given magnitude range. This study aims at extending the PSHA approach to the case of a characteristic earthquake scenario associated with an active fault. The approach integrates PSHA with a high-frequency deterministic techniqu...
